First Trimester Bleeding
- 25% of normal pregnancies will experience first trimester bleeding, usually no more than a menstrual period flow
- Bleeding is very common 1-2 days after intercourse (sex does not cause miscarriage)
- Miscarriage is very uncommon after fetal heart tones are established
- Call AWMC immediately if bleeding accompanied by severe cramping/pain, fever (T>100.4) or chills, or if it lasts >24hrs. Please call during office hours if otherwise.
Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (outside of pregnancy)
We take care of Abnormal Uterine Bleeding outside of pregnancy. Some causes of abnormal uterine bleeding include:
- Adenomyosis
- Polyps
- Leiomyomata (Fibroids)
- Malignancy (Endometrial or Cervical)
- Coagulopathy
- Benign endometrial dysfunction
- Iatrogenic
- Anovulation
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
